That's another song I've liked since I was a child, ALF. I had the single on the same day as Mungo Jerry's "In The Summertime", the single that replaced "Yellow River" at number 1 in the UK charts. It was 1970 and I was 8 years old.
This site hasn't been as good as it once was, ALF. There's hardly anything of interest on the home pages. Only the adult groups have anything of real interest to me on here these days. This here "Mellow Yellow" question is an exception rather than the rule.
Did you know that when Christie wrote "Yellow River" they originally offered it to the Tremeloes? The Tremeloes rejected it in favour of their own song "By The Way", so Christie released their own version of "Yellow River" and it soared to number 1 while the Tremeloes' chosen single limped to number 35. I bet the Trems were kicking themselves after that! Lol:)
I think that happens once in a while. Seems I remember Bing Crosby initially turning down doing the vocal on "White Christmas." That would have been a big mistake! Yes ... this Mellow Yellow thingy seems to be a game that someone brought over from another site (I think) and it is gaining some interest. It's a "word association" game, that I still don't completely understand, but it seems to be flexible enough that it doesn't really matter. Thank goodness! LOL.
