If those who need insurance most (the old, the sick) are deprived of insurance some of them will surely die. Could that be the goal?

If you let the old and the ill die then cost of insurance will be less and all the healthy folks can enjoy coverage at a much cheaper rate. That is what some folks say is the benefit of wars. People die. There are fewer of them. Weeds out the population. Survival of the fittest. It does seem rather cold to me but perhaps possibly it is meant to be. Wars and dying from disease due to lack of health care.  Positive tools to keep the population in check since people insist on breeding and keep adding other people to the planet.  It gives one something to think about.

    Old and disabled people have Medicare....has nothing to do with Obamacare.
    No one has talked about getting rid of the preexisting conditions requirements.
    So no that is certainly not the plan, has never been the plan.
    The left always uses scare tactics... Republicans are gonna throw Grandma off the cliff. ..... People are getting wise to it though.

  • Dear RosieG,

    Truthfully no, I don’t think death of the old is the goal of those changing our national insurance…I actually think the real problem is much deeper, really kinda existential…interwoven into the fabric of our culture.

    My own dear cousin tries to say, “Oh, just vote Republican (or Democrat, Libertarian), that is THE answer.” But we have not looked at our deep human fears, our greed…two massive world wars, and now we have atomic energy and STILL don’t understand ourselves, the being whose finger is on that nuclear trigger…

     * * *
    At the same time I will just add this, as one rather recently finding myself old, I DO notice lots of predatory glances toward us oldsters now, looking to mine us for all we might be worth...but that is non-sectarian, it is equal-opportunity.

    Thank you for your thoughtful answer Virginia and Happy Wednesday. At 79 I've been old for quite awhile now.
    I think humans are hopeless. For the amount of time we have been in existence we still can't get along. We still kill and hate and cheat and lie and betray. We are pathetic. What is the purpose of life? All I can come up with is this...to be kind/useful/helpful to one another. To the extent we can achieve that we are successful and have fulfilled our purpose. It doesn't seem to be such an impossibly unachievable thing. Be civil/polite. Eschew rude/insulting. Don't attack a person whose views don't mirror yours. Speak up and out about your truths so people will know where you stand. Do it for the purpose of allowing others to know you better. Don't do it to make them feel small or worthless or less than you. Disagree agreeably. The purpose of communication is to communicate. We can do it with kindness or with vengeance/hostility/animosity/vindictiveness. It is always our choice how we relate to one another. Here's the thing. We are all in the same boat. We begin and end and in-between we live a life. It's the same for each one of us. We don't seem to realize we're all on the same team heading for the same destination. Why that is I shall never understand. In some countries age is venerated/respected/even treasured. America is not one of them.  While I think we used to be kinder, more accepting, less selfish I believe that NOW is the very worst time to be an American. I am embarrassed to be one and I have never been that before. I am first generation American. My parents/grandparents fled to America for a better life from the Armenian Genocide going on perpetrated by Turks. They would be appalled at what we have in the White House currently and what the powers that be are doing to their country. I certainly am. So I feel disheartened/depressed/disillusioned and disgusted. I believe we should love our neighbors as ourselves. I don't know if you are religious but I also believe "what you do to the least of mine you do to me". I do. Every day I start anew hoping for better and it is sameoldsameoldsameold. Lies lies lies and more lies to justify/defend/excuse the unjust/indefensible/inexcusable. I don't get it.  Sorry for the downer but I'm on my first cup of coffee. I'll perk up a bit after the second cup. What would I do without my early morning caffeine? :( Many of us are expendable. We don't count. We aren't important enough or powerful enough or rich enough. All we can do is keep talking and asking and pointing out and making noise. Maybe one day we will be heard and something good will come of it. I know silence does nothing.  I'm not wired to do nothing. So I talk! :) This post was edited by RosieG at March 1, 2017 7:20 AM MST

  • As someone who has survived (so far) the British National Health Service I have to tell you the people of the US have nothing to worry about,

    Medicare takes care of the older people and there's Medicaid for people who have limited incomes as far as I understand.

    Here's the HUGE BUT m'dear. Paul Ryan wants to hack and slay away at Medicaid/Medicare/Social Security. With a vengeance. I'm not kidding. The kindasortamaybe plus is that The Donald did vow to not touch Medicare or Social Security during his days as Candidate Trump. But now? I don't know if he will hold fast to that or allow himself to be convinced that it is not important. You know he just bumped up the budget for the Military by a goodly amount. He cut the budget for the State Department by something like 37% . The big budget money will go to Military/Defense and Security (the wall for instance). Cuts will come from domestic programs. Social programs are a target of Ryan's and have been since he came on the scene with his infamous budget. So I have no faith that we can count on what we have always counted on. Steven Bannon, The Donald's brain, has admitted his goal is DECONSTRUCTION of the administration. Tear down what exists now and replace it with a Leninist vision of government. He is a fan of Lenin's you see and so I see no light at the end of the tunnel. Sadly. SIGH. Thank you for your reply Yogafan!  :)

  • Trump said he has no intention of touching Social Security or Medicare. I think you are over exaggerating the situation here. I know you don't like Trump, he's not my all time favorite either, but I don't think that's the plan.
