Do you take everything literally/seriously? Do you make jokes all the time because you're uncomfy with serious? How do you take things?

  • Sometimes a joke can come off very poorly.   I was working as a cashier and a customer had a salad.  A friend of hers said, "That's huge!"  to which some random guy in line replied, "That's what she said."  Awkward silence.

  • The quip, "That's what she said." is a penis size reference. Thus the awkward silence.

LOL---clever and quick, but wrong place and time---I certainly understand the awkward silence.

  • No, I don't think it was either.  The insipid line, "That what she said." is adolescent.  We were not in a high school cafeteria nor was the speaker a teen.

One has to try anything to improve the situation the other person is in. Humor seems to be the way to go if done correctly, but it's not like I make jokes all of the time. Just some of the time.

Humor can be tricky. If the other person is deadly serious humor will likely make him/her angry not happy. If you know the person well then you can probably guess when to use it and when to avoid it. Thank you for your reply Zack!  :)
