How do you create a unique avatar?

What software did you use? Did you create it at an online site? Did you use an app like Windows Snipping Tool?

I use Windows Paint, the one that comes with the OS.

  • I've used it a little but but it's limiting. I have a verison of PSP which is 7 years old now but still does a good job. I've had a lot of use out of it but I'm no expert.

  • I've used a program called Blender in the past to make interesting creations. It's more for creating animations similar to what you see when a movie introduces the company that made it: think Warner Brothers, Disney, or 20th Century Fox. However, you can put together stationary photo intros like the photo below. It's pretty cool. I made a smiliar one where it looks like my name is disolving.

  • If you're interested in trying, there are dozens upon dozens of YouTube tutorials and Blender is a completely free software. Although, it takes a fairly beefy PC if you want something like the first picture.

  • I'm not sure whether mine's "beefy" or not. Just a common or garden HP laptop. Seems pretty good to me.

  • It's kinda nice, Veena. Has the feel of somebody who spans the years, maybe even the centuries.

A couple of my friends customized it for me.  One added my name, another the ears.  I don't know what programs they use though, sorry.

  • The ears make it unique. With them it's exquisite.

Depends if I'm on the computer, or on one of my devices. It will be an app on the devices, whereas mostly an online editor if on the computer.

  • There's a lot of stuff available on line now. It must be costing the companies that sell graphics programs.

It's a changed world. and has been for a while now. Those companies who couldn't adapt have been erased from surface. Hmm.

I used the camera on my phone to take the selfie in the first place, then I used the photo-editing firmware to change it to black and white. At some point, I wanna replace this pic with a more recent, colour version, when I can be ar**d to do it!

  • You'll probably get a few complaints if you change it. This is the way we've come to think of you. ;)

  • "I'm pretty sure I used Gimp, although upgrades to the O/S seem to have disabled it since then.

  • I've heard Gimp is an excellent program, and a freebie. Haven't used it myself.

I use it all the time.

  • The latest version allows it to run natively on OSX, so the X11 environment is no longer required.  Still not as good as Photoshop, but it's free.

I got my avatar from simply putting variations of my screen name into a Google image search.  This one has stuck with me since I have been here.

I just took a scene image from my favorite movie ~
Director George Romero's 1968 original "Night of the Living Dead"

The avatar is unique for me; I'm happy to use it --  it's the only avatar I've ever used.

The image shows up a bit better on my profile page; it's a bit bigger there.
    I love that movie! Ha!

    :)
