Per Trump, "Everything that is broken in our country can be fixed". Agree/dis/why?

  • I agree with that statement. It may take a long time for some problems to be fixed such as the massive amount of debt our country has, but it can be fixed. The problem is that politicians of all sides would rather bicker with each other and try to get everything they want instead of creating compromises that will work towards everyones favor. Just look at Trump's address the other day. Half the room wouldn't applause or even stand when honoring a national hero because they are so opposed to the new administration. The same thing happened with the last administration as well in certain regards. Both parties in general need to chill out and get to work to fix the problems. That would be ideal anyway.

  • Just a rhetorical question.. no need to answer me .. but I wonder.... is building a mega expensive folly of a wall *fixing* things? The problem with fixing things is, that unless it's thought through.. it can end up causing more problems..

I agree with thee Corey. But what are the odds of that ever happening again? In the olden days they did work with one another. There were actually bipartisan bills that passed and became laws that benefited we the people. That doesn't happen any more.  Do you have any idea why? Is it that the quality of our politicians is so much less than it used to be? I think I'm going to ask that question.  Thank you for your thoughtful and helpful reply and Happy Thursday! :)

That would be great, but if it could all be fixed it would have already been done.
But not everyone can agree how that will happen.

Touche Lulu'sMom. I think our current Pols are much less than they used to be. Remember in the good old days when Republicans and Democrats created BIPARTISAN legislation and worked together? Not on everything of course but on many things? Will we ever experience that again? I dunno but it's disheartening. Thank you for your reply m'dear! :)

  • I agree that it can and some will.  But there are of course some that don't want it to get better as they can't get power or the credit. And unfortunately it works both ways

I agree. It works both ways. There is an obstinacy, recalcitrance and stubborn bullheadedness that permeates  Congress. They seem to think it is the right thing to do. I don't. Do you? Thank you for your reply Swoop! :)

    Disagree.

Sometimes the most important thing you can tell a person is this truth:  It's broken; it's not your fault; and you can't fix it.

Oddly what just flashed through my mind as I read your words tom was that of a surgeon who loses a patient. I don't know where that came from or why but no matter how hard they try they cannot save everyone.  Some people die. So I guess that's true of all things. It's hard to accept and harder still to know which of them you can fix if you try hard enough and long enough and which of them are beyond your ability to fix. Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday!  :)

  • Disagree as many of the things Trump wants to fix aren't broken in the first place... and those that are, he will not solve with his crackpot ill-founded schemes.

Now that's a slant I hadn't considered DdbTD. You're right of course.  From Doofus Donny's perspective everything is crap and lousy and he, being the WHITE knight, will be the only one who can swoop in on his high WHITE horse to save us. AARRGGHH! Thank you for your reply DdbTD! :)

  • I agree that things can be fixed, but not that they will be. The politicians are too busy fighting with each other to give a crap about fixing anything. If it's a plan their party comes up with, it's a wonderfully awesome idea, if it's something the other party came up with, it's biased/racist/horrible. They need to get over themselves and start working together.

I totally agree with thee Karen but seriously sweetie what are the odds of that happening? In the good old days  they did that. Worked together on bipartisan issues and came up with bipartisan plans and bipartisan legislation. The world didn't end. I don't  know why that changed. Do you? Now they try to fix what isn't broken and ignore what is . Here comes another question. Thank you for your reply Karen and Happy Thursday! :)

  • Thank you, Rosie. I really feel that we, the People, are to blame for some of it. We let them gain too much power over us and now it's turned into a runaway train. They are all power hungry and blind to what's best for America.

You're welcome!  Once again I totally agree with thee m'dear. It's like trying put the toothpaste back in the tube. Impossible. We squeezed out too much I guess because we weren't paying sufficient attention? We the people are certainly not blameless. Thank you for your reply Karen!  :) This post was edited by RosieG at March 2, 2017 4:43 AM MST
