  • It would be difficult to match the accomplishments any female monarch of any age to the reign of Catherine the Great of Russia.

After founding a coup to relieve the Russian nation of her tyrannical, moronic husband Peter III, Catherine's rule expanded Russian territory and political influence as never before, fostered the rise of its arts and culture and re-energized the modern enlightenment begun under Peter the Great.

In the age of autocratic rule in Europe, Catherine's reign was more notable in its scope of achievement than even Elizabeth I of England, 2 centuries earlier. Her Rule is often cited as the Golden Age of the Russian monarchy. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at March 5, 2017 8:09 PM MST
