I don't know if "interesting" is the right word but in the grocers a few months ago I encountered a woman with a very heavily tattooed face. Looked like a crazed, mutated raccoon. Was the tattooist drunk? Blind? Both? Something had gone horribly wrong to create such an imbroglio.
When I'm feeling more compassionate I pause to wonder what such a person is expressing. In this case in really did look like deep inner torment. And with that the tattooing was just badly done.
What I find most off putting about tats is their permanence. The tat is permanent, the interest in the subject of the tat may not be. As an older adult will one still think cartoon characters, super heroes and that silhouette of the guy with the dreads and the meat clever are cool? Also it is often the quality of the tat. I used too regularly see a woman with tats on her arms which were the quality of a teen's doodling. Amateurish line drawings. No shading, no foreshortening, no concern of anatomy. I have to wonder if she is embarrassed by them.
