What exactly is the American Dream and can it be big enough to be for everyone or only some? Which some and why?

    It's complicated.

It changes from era to era.

It gets even more complex when the fact that an era can only last a decade these days with changes coming upon us all so fast.

Now, I think the American Dream is to live out our lives in peace, with some semblance of how our futures can include good health and longevity and a nice home and healthy kids.   PEACE.    That is what the American dream should include.   I don't mean putting up with anything FOR peace either.  I mean respect and harmony and positive feelings towards most people.

    No such a thing.

You can make your dream come true without touching american ground.

Many who have gone to the US in search for it have only found a nightmare.

A few have accomplished their goals, but the same can be said for many people elsewhere.

There used to be such a thing Uc. Owning your own home. Sending your kids to college. Having a stable job that paid enough to support your family. That WAS the American dream. Saying there is no such thing is false. There was. Once upon a time. Long ago. Thank you for your reply.

Same can be said for other countries, Rosie.  Buying a home and supporting a family on one income was feasible and pretty common.  Schools provided good education and sending a child to Uni did not cost the ridiculous amounts it costs today.  Things have changed, Everywhere. Not only in the USA. Elsewhere as well.  That´s why I said, there is no such a thing as the American dream. Dreams can be achieved elsewhere as well, just under different circumstances than before,

I think for some it's fleeing a country of tyranny with the hope of new freedoms, others monetary opportunities, anyone can cash if they have the fortitude.

You mean existing today. I know. That is why I asked the question. What I want to know is who is responsible for killing it ? Any ideas? Right now the billionaires have it made. The millionaires aren't doing too badly. The hundred thousand  aires are surviving. It's the rest of us that struggle to reach the promised land. But someone keeps jerking it away from us making it farther and farther out of reach. Thank you for your reply Uc!  :)
