Do you enjoy good protest songs?

  • Dunno... i used to like protest songs but not sure they really do them like that anymore? Do they?

    Reminded me of this song where it says, too many protest singers, not enough protest songs..

    Not sure I know any good protest songs, they are usually fueled by emotion and anger.
    Some of Tom Lehrer's songs maybe. I enjoy those, but are they protest songs?

  • If they are good.   For the record,  Alice's Restaurant is not a good protest song.  Just had to throw that out there.

    I wouldn't say I enjoy protest songs, but they were so much a part of life as I was coming of age...

    I actually went looking for WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO THE RAIN? sung by sweet-voiced Joan Baez, but came upon her rendering of this Irish anti-war song from the 1800's:

  • Yes I agree the poignancy, DTD...protest songs everywhere when I was young, and refreshing to find this one from the 1800's sadness about war...

    I heard her perform this around 1962, I took the bus all the way to Seattle (prolly 100 miles), even spent the night in the bus station...oh such adventure...it was all worth it too, got invited backstage to meet her...age seventeen, omg...
