Walgreens and Duane Reade stores still develop film and I'm pretty sure Target does also. I don't think high-end cameras will disappear because as good as phone cameras are, they are no match for a camera a professional photographer would use.
Do you think that, besides artists, there are still any professional photographers who still use film? I have no idea what the answer to that is, but my feeling is that there probably aren't many. But like I said, I have no idea.
There must be. When Kodak was downsizing and announced they were going to stop producing film there was a big rush to get certain kinds of kodak specialty films. There was something about a one or two types of colour and a bunch of black and white films that they made that art photographers really, really want and swear by for certain things. The color films had something was because it gave vintage color temps but I can't remember what it was about those b&w films that was the bigger loss to photographers.
Of course there are professional photographers. People who do weddings and other events, those who document political events, those who follow news people.
I long stopped using film myself, but would go up to the local camera store with my Iphone to have some of those printed out.
Just like that, the place was closed. Of course you can get pictures done online or at a local grocery or pharmacy, but I will miss a place that specialized in it.
It saves a lot of space when you can save things on your computer. I have at least two dozen photo albums stored in my sister's basement because I ran out of room in my apartment.
Rumbelows, Woolworths, Dixons, Blockbuster (yes), SafeWays are now no more. Which ones may not exist for too uch longer ... hmm, I'd say the BBC (controversial)..
Candle Maker, Bank counter teller, High Class Prostitute, and many other jobs that include jobs that will be taken over by robots in the next 10 years.
