    Thank you Rosie.

I'm hunkering down.  I'm an old hand at this.  Not the worst blizzard I've seen but then again, ask me again when it stops. :-)

The biggest problem is putting in the time to dig myself out.

  • Not sure your area but if it's like my neck of NY the snow is that light as air fluff stuff so far.

I'm in NH.  So, yes, it looks light & fluffy but it is piling up fast.  There's about 6 inches or so now.  Just went out to shovel a path for the dog & it wasn't as light as I expected it to be.  VERY windy so it makes it difficult to make a dent for any length of time.  I need to make sure my generator is clear in case we lose power.

AND, it's supposed to stay cold for at least the next few days so we won't be getting any of that quick melting that you usually get in NY. :-(

  • So far the wind is working the snow drifts in my favor.

It was a very wet, heavy, and icy type snow here in  S.E. Pa.

The problem is going to be the freezing weather for the next few days.  Makes clean up a bit harder.

You're welcome Harry. On the west coast they are playing it up as being potentially very dangerous. Being there as  you are, is it doing a lot of damage? It's kinda scary when you are at the mercy of "mother nature". Take care and thank you for your reply. Happy Wednesday! :)

Thanks again for your concern Rosie.  The two biggest concerns when something like this happens are the heavy winds and the roof collapsing under the weight of the snow.  It's still early here but from what I can see, the wind took a lot off the roof, which is a bit of a relief.  However, I have snow drifts that appear to be about 3 feet in some areas.  I have a lot of work to do today!  :-(

    Happy Wednesday back at you!

Thanks, Rosie and happy Tuesday. :)  No, it isn't my first blizzard and probably won't be my last.  Here in NYC it isn't as bad as they were predicting last night.  No more blizzard warning - we're down to weather advisory.  Last night they were predicting 8-12" of snow.  This morning it was reduced to 4-8" but it doesn't seem to be snowing as much as sleeting now.  In a way this is worse - it will make for some horrendous ice conditions tomorrow.

  • That is definitely worse.

The snow isn't my major concern here.  It's that after it's done it is predicted to jump into the 40's during the day and 20's at night.   That means it's gonna turn to ice everywhere.

I don't think it will be that warm here which means the ice will really solidify and will be difficult to shovel.  Bah!  I hate snow.

  • Yeah but all that snow is part of why you're the tough cookie you are today.

Cold and snow makes for hardy folk. ;)

LOL ... I'll settle for being a little less hardy and not having more snow and ice.  :)

They had us up to the 12" to 18" range near Philly where I live.  The rain/snow line really kept the snow at bay, but we did get a lot of sleet.  All together, there is about 6" of ice and snow out there.  It is very messy.  The wind wasn't as bad as what was predicted, at least for us.  I do know the Jersey shore had flooding as promised.

We got anywhere from 6-8 inches of snow/sleet.  The winds were bad earlier in the day, but have slowed down some.  It's still pretty cold and tomorrow will be icy and difficult to walk around.

Sounds very much like what it's like here.  The temps are dropping and everything is now frozen hard.  I did notice I can walk on top of the snow.

I can't imagine what tomorrow will look like.  They did a fantastic job of snow/ice removal within my development, but I have no idea what it will look like in the City.  They are notoriously bad about clearing the bus stops and I take an express bus to work.  We'll see.

You're welcome my friend and Happy Wednesday to you!  I'm glad it isn't as bad as predicted. On the west coast the scenes we see are kinda stark and scary. I lived in Massachusetts for 5 years so I'm familiar with n'oreasters and black ice. Good luck for today and subsequent days and thank you for your reply Spunky! Stay safe and warm!

Thanks.  Oddly, it was worse in midtown Manhattan than it was in my neighborhood.  They didn't shovel out the bus stops so the bus drops you off in the middle of the street and then you have to negotiate a mound of snow to get to the sidewalk.  I'm glad they don't put you down if you break a hip these days. :)  Happy Wednesday. :)

Hahahahahahahaha! You're welcome. Boy me too!  If they leave obstacles there like a mound of snow and you slip and fall and break something aren't they liable? If not they certainly should be! :)

Yes, they are liable, but you can drop dead before the City offers a settlement.

  • Thanks.   It's no my first and it definitely isn't the worst.   First of this season.   Still we used to get a few of these a year,  so it's a lot of recent times perspective on it's severity.

Really I feel and worry about the people who haven't yet fully recouped from the wind damage a week or two ago.   They are the ones that this is going to be rough for.

Glis, let me tell you about that wind last week.  It took down the largest tree in my backyard.  It was an 80 foot Poplar.  Six o'clock in the morning, I awoke to what I thought was a bomb going off.  But really, I knew it was that tree and thought it was on my house.  As it turns out, it fell over to my neighbor's, damaging, but missing most of his house.  What a mess.  We are still dealing with insurance and contractors to get everything repaired.
