Was your wife's cousin born in a holler?  You know somewhere in the Black Mining Hills of Dakota or some place like that down yonder?

    Def.

2 :  a depressed or low part of a surface; especially :  a small valley or basin

It happens. I wish I could have been the only boy in a family that size.

Yes,  I can believe it. There are three possibilities:

    1) The family deliberately only brought to term/raised male children prior to her conception/birth (I sincerely HOPE this is not the case, but it has been known to happen in strongly patriarchal cultures)

    2) There was some unknown environmental factor that somehow influenced the conception process to prefer male children (I don't know what it could be, but it's possible)

    3) Randomness happens. The odds of such a combination of children (assuming a random 50/50 distribution of gender outcomes) is about 8000:1. Not very likely, but then neither is winning the lottery, and people do win.

Wow!  I bet no one would mess with her.

It could be worse.  Imagine all girls with only one boy.  Yikes!

  • On a planet of billions, 8000:1 is not that unusual.

There are environmental conditions known to have an effect. Poor nutrition increases the chance of boys. But that wouldn't be strong enough to produce that result.

  • I questioned my wife further on the subject.  Her 1+12 = 13 cousin is on her mother's side while her father is also one of 13 children, although much more evenly divided between the sexes.

i have just carried out a head count of my own res and found  that I have a paltry 7 cousins, 2 nephews and one niece
