The same reasons people don't have pet cows, pigs, anchovies and chickens. They taste too good so we opted for pet dogs and cats. Patooey. Taste bad? Good pets.
It used to be a common thing. But as you know, Sardines swim in oil. Since the energy crisis started the nr of pet sardines have dwindled and now they are practically unknown.
