  • Actually Veena, I don't really cook full lavish meals as such...
However, I grew up in the 1950's in rural farm and timber country, where people getting together to share wonderful meals was a way of life. Every Sunday, every holiday, Easter Christmas Thanksgiving, anything at all. Sometimes you would put on a crab feed or a spaghetti feed, as they were called.
And no, you rarely used a cookbook, although everybody traded recipes on those little 3" x 5" cards.

I remember the only cookbook my mother used was called the HOUSEHOLD SEARCHLIGHT, and a traveling salesman had come through around 1940. He said to all the ladies, "Just think of any dish you would like, and it will be in this cookbook!" And that was true; no one could think of any recipe not in the cookbook, so everybody bought a copy.

Hi Veena.  It depends upon what I'm cooking.  If it's something out of the ordinary that I either haven't cooked before or might have tried once of twice, I need the help of a recipe or two.  I do have a tendency to review a few recipes and then adjust it to suit my taste.

  • Nah, I'm a pretty good cook. I don't use recipes unless it's something I've never made before and even then, I usually put my own twist on things.

Hey Veena, d`you remember me from Answerbag? I had a number of identities there (including this one) all taken from Red Dwarf (my all time favourite TV series) & also used to make frequent references to my old schoolteacher Miss Hamilton because I enjoyed her brand of classroom discipline. I`m sure you remember me. LOL

Of course I do, but I forgot your real name among the number of your identities....I remember you mistook me for Miss.Hamilton and I had to assure you that I never breathed Scottish air nor sipped Scottish ale...how are you;))

If I remember correctly you mentioned the name `Hamilton` & I asked you if you were any relation to my old schoolteacher. I remember you telling me you had no connection with bonnie Scotland.
