Hi Didge, during my graduation days, we never awaited the bus...we use to walk home....it was more or less 3 miles....very enjoyable and good exercise too!
Hi Dozy, Especially in warmer weather I try to walk one hour each day, and that is about three miles. Experts say you can push yourself to three-fold what you are accustomed, or about nine miles, but I will subtract some just for being old...
I think I could walk six miles and still be okay, at least in the summer...kinda out of condition right now!
I never learned how to drive, tried for years, it just didn't work out. I walk a lot and could probably make it several miles before i got tired. I did a 15 mile walk-a-thon once and made it the whole way. Of course, I was a LOT younger then, but I can still get out there and walk with the best of them. Not too bad for an old woman who smokes.
I was once walking and talking with a friend who had moved to a country town. We passed tahe town limits and kept walking and after a while I noticed that he was becoming distressed. We'd walked about five miles and I didn't realise that he wasn't used to it. I offered to walk back and get the car but he toughed it out. I never did that to anybody again.
Depend on where "there" is. If it's taking a walk to town, that would be about 6 miles one way. I could do it but I don't know if I had it in me to walk all the way back up my mountain, which would force me to consider resettling. :-)
