  • Meh.   The definition makes it sound like an okay thing but the reality and implementation of it is lunacy.
There's being polite and empathetic human being and then there is knee-jerk thought policing Political Correctness.  The problem here is the definition is created by the fringe who are selling the insanity.

I don't think PC is a bad thing. I think the interpretation of it, and next making it popular to be anti-PC is the main issue here. Is just like feminism. That isn't bad either, it simply a question about having equality and same opportunities for all... Some have hijacked the cause and it's been used by the opposition to ridicule it all. Hmm.

  • Feminism is only an issue on how some choose to define or allow to use the handle.  It's good cause with a few bad elements.  Just like most things.

Political correctness IMHO is toxic ideology in and of itself.  For numerous reasons too.   Not only does it help to legitimize things like the Alt-right, it's own success is damaging to basic thought.
As I said, in my view being a polite, respectful, non-bigoted, and empathetic human being doesn't need political correctness.   In my view political correctness is tyranny of thought and action in the name protecting people from being offended and triggered.

Though I see what your saying and agree with the concepts of behavior. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at March 29, 2017 3:38 PM MDT

I don't disagree in PC, but in how it is being used/abused today. I dislike how this has given the alt-right a platform to operate from. How the polarized opinions ironically vitalize each other with artificial respiration. What I do not see is how the elite, all our intelligentsia cannot see how they actually harm their own case and intensify the strength of their opposites. Sighs.

  • Completely agree.  I also think it's strange that it's often the most privileged "enlightened ones"  who tend to take it too far and make the mountains out of molehills.

  • It's frustrating as hell and easy to get down about it but there's an optimistic side that any kind of change and evolution goes through this trial.

  • Good intentions gone astray.

Me: (Sitting down at a table at Burger Place with my burger)
Random Person at adjoining table: Excuse me, could I ask you to sit somewhere else, we're vegan and I find it offensive when someone eats an innocent slaughtered animal in front of us.
Me: Okay... (looks around, no open tables) Um, you know this is a burger place?
RP: (Self righteous in tone) Okay, excuse me, I asked you nicely to take your bloody sandwich someplace else.
Me: Um, there's no other place to sit.
RP: (Now angrily exasperated) Listen, murderer, if you don't leave, we're going to have to protest while you're eating.
Me: (Nervously) I seriously don't think I can...
RP: (Starts shrieking at the top of her lungs, her 2 friends join in)

  • Oh, and no offense to vegans... some of the nicest people I know are vegans. I love vegans. Honest. No, seriously. Should I delete my response? I will if someone's offended.

  • Riddle: How many Polish does it take to change a light bulb?
Answer: Five; one to hold the bulb, and four to turn the ladder.

…and the actual term was Polock (meant dumb), because everybody had their special insult. The Irish were Micks (also dumb), Swedish like me fell under the dismissive label Scandihoovians (big tough and dumb, ya), African-American was “a black cloud coming down the street.”
"That red shirt makes you look like a Greek."

Among my rough-and-tumble people of logging country, if they do not insult you it means they do not like you; politeness reserved as itself the deepest insult you could render.

So when I found myself working alongside African-Americans in 1967 affirmative action San Francisco, my language was making people actually cringe.
But the solution was simple; “Oh please don’t say it like that, say this instead.” It was difficult changing my whole way of speaking, but as I became close with my co-workers I understood what they had left behind in Alabama, etc. and I became highly motivated. I cleaned up my expressions, and then again in the 1980's for gender bias...that made sense to me.

Typically now, if someone goes all off into PC outrage mode I don’t even pay much attention – except to put distance between me and them – because in my experience the listener really can participate by hearing the intention of the speaker.

Thank you Virginia. There still are causes worth fighting for, but they get all blurry by the noise and fuss made about symbols worth nothing. Meh.

Socially disadvantaged or discriminated against? Not sure who defines those things.  Years ago we would not do any of those out of respect and politeness - was simply a matter of good breeding.  Now has hardened into a belief system that purports to reach beyond politeness and into people's hearts.  And has created a gallery of "sacred cows" in the process that by definition, because of the "victim" status assigned them, have come to define what is "right".  That is because of their status they can do no wrong.  At least politically.  And becomes open season on anyone who doesn't go along with the program.  Such hatred and vitriol they pour out.  Not only that but they feel justified in every bit of their hatred and vitriol,  Because they define anyone who thinks and acts in a different manner from them as "wrong".  Whatever. Totalitarianism much?

Don't judge a book by its cover. No body shaming please. Besides, muscles don't win fights - skills do. A boxing match isn't a push-up contest, and it isn't a sit-up contest. Meet Tyson Fury. So what if he's obese. So what if he's a gypsy. The guy can fight. He's unbeaten. Undisputed world champion who dethroned Wladimir Klitschko. He's a success story. Haters stop hating. Here are 4 images of the best boxer in the world.

It's hard to believe, but he really is the best fighter on the planet. "There isn't a man born from his mother who can beat Tyson Fury".

I can't argue for or against. Boxing is far from my knowledge world. I use a punching bag if I need to let out steam. That's it. As for PC, I dunno where it fits into the picture. Hmm.
