Putin continues to try to shore up Assad's position in Syria. What does Trump do? Nothing? Or something and alienate Putin?

All the many many lines that were crossed to which Trump alluded with the chemical weapons attack on the Syrian people by the Syrian president sounded tough! Like Trump was really moved. But did he think about how Putin will react? How does Trump backtrack to stay on good terms with Putin? What's he gonna do?

  • Well you got your answer tonight.  How does 60 Tomahawk missiles landing on the airstrip that launched the attack with the chemical weapons and also stored chemical weapons sound?   It seems that Trump was certainly moved by those pictures of the dead people particularly the children and yes they did notify the Russians on the ground to head for the hills.

I read that it was 50 not 60 missiles and they were directed at Shayrat airfield. What's next? Thank you for your reply Yogafan and Happy Friday. Did Trump get Congressional approval for this war-like move? Do you know?

  • According to three different news stations it was between 59-60 but does it really matter whether it was 50 or 60 missiles?  Yes they did land on the airfield where the planes took off from to spread the chemical weapons, it was also used for chemical storage.

This was "a military action" such as taken by other Presidents. Trump did not need Congressional approval for this according to the news and my ex military husband, he did inform Congress what his plans were.  Presidents need Congressional approval to declare war but this was not a declaration of war.

I've been watching the news on an off all day and the general opinion has been favourable, Senators saying this should have happened before instead of drawing a red line which was crossed with no consequences to Assad.  Even John McCain who has been very critical of Trump has agreed that this was the correct action to take, "it was swift and decisive" is what I've been hearing.  Now Assad knows that he can't just massacre people without any repercussions.
