How about airlines stop overbooking flights in the first place?
So they offered people $800 to "voluntarily" leave, then they drag someone off. What a crock. At least now maybe he'll be able to sue and make $1 million. A lot better than $800...

This is a direct result of Trump's "NEW" America. Total disrespect for human dignity. How about making the person waiting for that seat catch another flight?
I doubt you have any definitive answer as to how this is Trump's "NEW" America. Nonetheless this was a definite violation of this mans rights. Even a non lawyer can see a viable cause to sue.
Yes..and now it's gotten worse because the TSA has been emboldened. This Asian person doesn't look "American" in their eyes, so the gloves are off. Imagine if he were brown skinned or Black? They would have shot him
Dear BeanCrisp, First of all, to thank you for posting that...to publicize as widely as possible. I noticed that the man was not resisting, he was just not co-operating either...good for him, it is prolly what I would have done. He said he was a physician, with patients awaiting treatment. For UA to apologize for the inconvenience, and offer $800, is not enough.
We are all expected to "understand" that profit takes priority over human decency, and honor...I have seen this behavior with corporations. Somewhere, somehow we all need to take a stand.
* * * And finally, this is so appalling I would want to check and make certain the facts are accurate, that Yahoo news did double-check before releasing this?

That is just awful. I hope he sues those jerks. Was anyone else "asked" to leave besides him? I don't understand how they could overbook like that. They know how many people those planes will hold.
If the plane was full before he boarded and he was denied permission to board, the rules are clear.
But through error he was allowed to physically board the plane, and there would have been no seat available for him had he been allowed to stay on board.
And surely that would have been against FAA regulations to fly under those conditions.
Hopefully, as this plays out, a reasonable, citeable resolution will emerge.
Evil no, crassly stupid and irresponsible yes. Were the four crew members required for THAT flight? If so, they should have dedicated seating and passengers should be prevented from occupying those seats upon boarding. If not, then United should make them wait - or if they need to fill a shift from the destination point, charter a small plane and get them there at the airline's expense, none of this was a passenger's fault.
United is a scumbag airline. They were in the news before this for refusing a family because the girls were wearing leggings. Ridiculous. They don't care about their customers, only about making money.
I just saw something that indicated the shortage of seats was due to United needing to relocate personnel; it was not overbooking at all. Now United has a breach of contract problem. The personal harm and humiliation is still on the back of airport personnel.
