Note: Above figures are for 10-year period of 2005-2015
No.
Average deaths due to 3rd World Country type terrorism may be 7.
Deaths due to inner Country terrorism?
BE VERY AFRAID.

The actual figure was 71 over 10 years according to the New America Foundation. Until the Orlando shooting, the numerical split since 9/11 (98 deaths) was almost evenly divided between jihadist and far-right-wing violence.

So what are we going to do about the lightning strikes? Should we start "vetting" clouds? Do we need to spend $3 trillion putting up lightning rods all over the place?
You are AWESOME. You know it and I know it. Thank you for the numbers. I came back to remark that we all need to really worry about those terrorists in the government more than any terrorists in that hideous scary Middle East.
I'm more afraid of driving?
That's rational. Your chance of dying in an automobile accident (about 30,000 US deaths per year) is FOUR ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE higher than your chances of dying from terrorism.
Yet no one worries about "vetting" drivers too much or banning cars from "sensitive targets" or etc. Curious that...;-D...
I'm not sure what it is we agree upon, but that's nice to hear...;-D...
Florida has the most in deaths and injuries in the USA. I'm down here right now and people don't tarry; when you hear thunder you take cover. People get struct inside sometimes. It's beautiful at night; it's nice to watch if it is far away.
Wonder what those terror numbers will look like 2015 - 2025.
That the fear of terrorism is hyped.
@Bozette -- Yes, I concur with that statement.
@TM -- Actually, on a population-weighted average, Florida is 7th in lightning deaths/injuries (but #1 in raw total). So, despite everything Floridians do, 47 of them died from lightning strikes in the 2005-2015 time frame. Why doesn't the government DO SOMETHING!?
As for the probable 2015-2025 numbers? I don't know. What I do know is they will pale compared to other sources of morbidity/mortality. You have much more to fear from cigarettes, Big Macs, bathtubs, and cell-phone-distracted drivers than you do terrorists.
I think you've just made a target of yourself for the NLS (National Lightning Association) ... I wouldn't be standing under any trees if I were you... just a thought..
Lightning rods will just attract attention ... sorry, couldn't resist :)
It's a way of gaining power by the Gov.
That's kind of funny!...;-D...
But we cannot stand idly by and let the cumulonimbus threat go unchecked!...;-D...
Oz, if Donald gets elected, he may invent Latino Lightning rods. You know? If you dare come over as an illegal? This is better than waterboarding them. Fry them. Crispy bean dip.
Actually, we do occasionally get weather conditions where the winds blow from the south-south east and bring the volcanic ash/gas from the Big Island (where the volcanoes are) over to O'ahu. We call it "vog" (volcanic + smog) and it DOES irriate the eyes/nose/throat/etc.
Lol... kind of? ... it's at l least a 3.5. :)
And we can serve them with waffles.....;-D....

But where do we stop? .. do we ban nylon shirts as a breeding ground of radical lightning in its infant form of static? ..
I think they tried LLs ... they didn't work .. they're onto MMs now
Do something? We live on golf courses and beaches. Building and rebuilding is constant and many of the lightning victims are on roofs when struck. Lots of people get struct but don't die. I think the whole South and Kansas/Iowa are the big lightning hot spots.
People have to take measures to mitigate the danger for themselves. When thunder roars in the distance it's time to get off of a roof, off the golf course, and off of the beach. The locals do it; the tourists have to be prodded a little.
@TM -- Perhaps the government should "do something" about people with broken sarcasm detectors....;-D...
