Foods can be very bizarre. I've visited Phuket. It was before that terrible typhoon hit and killed all those people. Phuket is incredibly beautiful. The beaches along with the Thai people were simply lovely. The food of Phuket was incredibly outstanding. And, the Thai messages were very cheap but nearly killed me! Haha! The Thai people are very reserved so, you can just imagine the dismay of the Phuket natives when French visitors took off their clothes on the beaches. We were all warned no nudity but I guess some people didn't care. It seems they were just so happy to be visiting Phuket that they threw all caution to the wind. The best part for me was visiting all the little restaurants. Most looked like little shacks. We asked the owners/chefs to cook and bring to us whatever their own personal favorite dishes were. Seeing the surprise turn to pride and joy on their faces when serving us and, watching our reactions closely was fun and heartwarming. They loved seeing people really make a fuss over how wonderful their food was. And, the dishes of Phuket were really wonderful. Yes, I have very, very fond memories of visiting Phuket.
FYI, it's pronounced Poo-ket. Get your minds out of the gutter.
I knew YOU knew how to pronounce it. Most Americans don't. I will state without reservation that I would rather not have put that caveat in there but what do you do when some take offense to things that most of us don't?
Most good girls swallow. As a life rule, I will try anything once. How do you know you don't like it until you try it?
I have to admit I passed on the feet when being served their specialty, chicken feet soup ... Our local friend was pleased he could have an extra, and had a laugh over me. Win-win.
Although I would have eaten it, I can respect other's decisions. Let's face it, you eat one wrong thing that your body isn't used to and you could find yourself in serious trouble.
