Don't know how many Secret Service protectors of the prez there are at the White House. But there has to be A LOT MORE at a rally. Right?

How effectively can you protect anyone if there are thousands and thousands if people around? Is smaller safer? Isn't having fewer people around better than having thousands milling around? What are the safeguards? It seems to me it would be infinitely more difficult to protect anyone in a very a large crowd. No matter whom it is.
