Yeah, interesting that the word "humane" originated from the word "human", isn't it? I think that humans, as a species, aren't particularly humane in nature, speaking generally.
Two inches if that ;) but what if a dropoff hole or sharp incline. They exist on the Pacific Coast. You can walk out to the ocean and then suddenly be afloat.

if by humaness you mean goodness, then no, we didn't lose it.
we're still gaining it little by little, it's not fully in our posession yet, so we can't lose it.
it may seem like the world is a cruel place, which it is, but that goodness still exists, not on a big scale, but a small one. just step away from any news media outlet.
