I'm not in favor of lifetime positions - not even on the Supreme Court. I think when you know you can't be fired, you could find yourself slacking off and not doing the best job you can.
Yes, I misspoke, Art. III federal judges are lifetime appointments. I do not think they should be lifetime, either, but certainly not the Director of the FBI...look at the BS Hoover did.

The only reason I discovered federal judges were lifetime appointment was because of that 60 Minutes interview. I thought only the Supreme Court of the U.S. was lifetime.
Appellate, district, and judges on the Court of International Trade are lifetime appointments. Some others, like magistrates and bankruptcy judges, have set terms.
