Is there any possibility that the Russian reporting to his boss at the Kremlin about the meeting with Kushner LIED?

Did the Russian know his conversations were being monitored so he set up the lie purposely? That Kushner was so stupid/naive/dumb to suggest such thing as the Russian reported is really hard to believe. Isn't it? Has Kushner denied it ever happened?
