A few Harvard hopefuls got uninvited when what they have posted online became known to admissions. In a FREE society you have

a right to your opinions but doesn't everyone else have a right not to have anything to do with you because of your opinions?

Harvard has the right to pick and choose who they admit.

Unless it violates the law. Bigots, sexists, homophobes, racists and Holocaust deniers are not protected classes.

OUKnow, how does that conflict with what 99 said?

My son had all of the qualifications and applied to MIT. We assumed he never got a response because he was only 16. One of his 18 year old friends who had identical credentials applied and was admitted. Age discrimination?

I couldn't tell you that. I can tell you that your son must be a smart cookie to even consider applying.   I can tell you only that.

Thank you...no wonder that I didn't attend Harvard. Lousy grammar.

I just did that for Randy~~~~~~~~~~~~~~.

You are smart.  I know it and you know it and grammar has zilch to do with it.  Plus your grammar is pretty good.

YES.  They certainly do have a right.  If you are a school or a company with a solid repute, you owe the public and those within your company/school to trust that this institution knows whom to admit inside.

You post something publicly?  IT IS PUBLIC.

I don't want some cretin with an agenda near me or my company.   If you are stupid enough not to exercise caution where common sense is concerned, I don't want you engaging with my clients or your co-workers on my dime. I believe Harvard was correct in their decision.  They recalled the admissions because the views expressed by those students did not comport with the standards in which Harvard believes.  This is a good thing.  It may cause some students to realize that what they say, even if they call it freedom of speech, can come back to haunt them and maybe it will make them think twice about what they put out in the public domain.
