Those who give speeches they did not write are not responsible for the content. They have to rely on the integrity/knowledge of the speechwriter. Who is supposed vett speeches for accuracy?

The guy making the speech usually reads it first, he may also have a lawyerteam to check it for things that could make him criminally liable. eg: derogatory statements about some ethnic group.

But in any case, the person making the speech is responsible for what he say. I cannot believe that that is not so in the US, just as it is anywhere else. That is another reason why the speaker himself should read the speech before making it. At the speed he have to talk it is too easy to mistake a word for another one, that would make him look like a fool, and that is rarely the intention when making speeches (remember GWBs Bushims)

The moment you put it out there it becomes yours. I'm assuming that those are your words. That's what disclaimers are for.
If we were to excuse this misshapenning, as a speech writers error, we could never ever ever hold any political figure accountable for what they say, after all they have speech writers too.
I understand your point, I do, but I think you just feel sorry for her. I do too.
Once she stands there, without any disclaimers, the words become hers. Don't you think?

I disagree  completely with thee my friend. If Melania gave the Gettysburg address would the words be hers? Of course not. Speaking the words of others doesn't make you the owner of them. It assumes agreement of course but there is no ownership in my opinion.  My words are always my own unless and until I put them in quotation marks. However all human beings  have  many similar experiences and therefore may well express their reactions to them in similar ways. I'm sure with all the questions I've asked here and for the years I was at  Answerbag I have asked the same questions others have asked. I am  equally certain that I have repeated myself over the years since I cannot possibly recall all the questions I've asked on internet social sites. I joined Answerbag in February 2005 and I've been at ever since.  I switched to Answermug in December 2015 when Answerbag folded without warning. My concerns now are the same concerns I've always so it would be remarkable if I didn't repeat  myself through the thousands and thousands of questions I've asked. But what happened to Melania was egregious and preventable. What was handed to Melania was trash from the get-go. It was only a matter of time that it would be discovered. It was not coincidental or accidental. It could have been sabotage. It  was that bad. Thank you for your reply NHP.  I love words. I play with them all the time. I am not a  stickler for "correctness" despite my having been an English major. I know what is proper and correct. That doesn't limit me at all. Words are living things and should be bendable not rigid. In my opinion.

Well, if I am Hillary Clinton and have a decent speech writer(s) whom I already have researched, worked with and trust, I can probably TRUST them to know what I am looking for in my speeches.

If I am Melinia Trump, mistress/wife/bimbo and have NOT ONE CLUE how to give a speech and trust my idiot husband to cover for my blunders,  I would wake up and grow my own brain and write my own speech.  It is NOT like she is all that busy.  If she is, she has no business on the stage in the first place.  

If she is going to be just window dressing, then she should do what she knows best and put in a nice plunging gown and let everyone drool over Donald's choice of a mate that just lays there and takes it.   That is all she is good for.  She is so BUSY watching her 9 year old at home.  That is her busy day.

"I cannot control what my FANS say". 

This is an idiot first lady in the making.    I wonder if they are going to add a strip pole in the White House for her?  That is more her style than speaking
