What liability does a bystander doctor have if he/she tries to help save a life? Is there immunity from lawsuits if the person dies?

    If totally untrained, then no liability. If a trained medic then there might be some liability.

    In any case it would depend on a 'qualified opinion' from an MD, stating that the deceased would not have died if no attempt to 'help' had been made. This post was edited by JakobA the unAmerican. at June 18, 2017 3:30 AM MDT

    In the US, all states have some form of Good Samaritan law which protects doctors and some others who act in good faith to provide assistance. The exact provisions vary by state. Many other countries also have similar laws.
