Do long car rides give you a headache?

Or is this just me? I was in the car for about 2 hours today and now I have a headache that won't abate. It happened on my last road trip too. Doesn't seem to matter whether I'm driving or not.

The sun is high in the sky this time of the year and maybe the glare is to blame.  I definitely can get headaches with a long ride.  I try and stay hydrated and wear sunglasses.

  • I actually was wearing sunglasses, but perhaps I wasn't that hydrated, so that could've had something to do with it.

I think just the general long drone of any kind of travel can bring on a headache.  I used to get a lot of headaches in general, especially if I was dehydrated.

  • That's weird. Do you have problems with your vision? It could be the constant movement...

Personally...I get car-sick when I'm not driving. I have to sit with the window wide open and my head hanging out like a dog.

  • Not that I know of. I was wearing sunglasses, but I don't think those have ever caused a headache otherwise. It could be because my head is pretty much in the same position the whole time? I'm not entirely sure.

I used to get carsick as a kid--glad that doesn't happen anymore!

I'm not a good passenger either unless it is a scenic drive.  Crazy busy highways always make me feel a bit nauseous.

  • If I chew gum or put something in my mouth, it usually helps. lol

  • "No"  ... I've driven OTR for about eight years.
That would not be a good habit to have.

Just a thought... might your car have an exhaust leak somewhere not large enough to be noticeably noisy but perhaps putting fumes into the interior? Or a leaky bodywork seal near the exhaust-pipe so the slipstream effects draw fumes in? (I have had the latter problem.)
