I went to a party once where this biker dude lived. He looked like a biker...big and burly with a long beard. As I talked with him I noticed his high level of vocabulary and thinking. I told him he sounded like a professor. He was at one time. I guess it is how one speaks that reveals their smarts. I noticed that in my students.
I agree with thee Ele. It is how people express themselves that says it all. We know that spelling words correctly has zero to do with intelligence. I have worked with folks who are definite geniuses at various jobs and some of them could not spell their way out of a paper bag. That was what I was there for. They were the creators of things and I just made sure that the words they were credited with saying were all spelled correctly. You can't tell anything by looking at folks either. It is what comes out of their mouths and if it's stupid stuff how can that be okay? Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday! Maybe I told you this before. Years ago I lived in an apartment and it was due to be repainted. The painter shows up and he is tattooed every place that was exposed. His arms and neck and legs. BUT. After chatting for awhile we discovered we had a lot in common! He liked jazz and classical music and liked a lot of the same literary genres I did! D'ya know what? After awhile I didn't even see his tats. It took 3 days to repaint the apartment and by then we were very tight. From then on I was never put off or afraid of folks with tattoos. Which means if we could just meet folks and talk to them awhile before we jump to conclusions based on appearance the world would be a much safer place! :)
