It depends on how literally you mean it. If we're talking about actual food, yes, there is. Think of free lunch programs at school. Kids eat free. "Ah, but Just Asking, somebody pays for those meals... often the tax payers." Indeed, but let's consider what happens to kids who have empty bellies. They under-perform in school. They miss more days. They have higher drop-out rates. These things lead to higher poverty rates and greater crime. I wouldn't consider it paying for a meal so much as I would investing in our future and in the betterment of society. It's not a payment at all because we're repaid for it, and with interest. The same analogy can be applied to countless programs.
If we're not talking about it in a literal sense, but more along the lines of, "If you take something, even if it's supposed to be free, you'll wind up paying for it down the line." This is often true. Was it you who just asked about "free estimates?" A prime example. It's often a lure to get you in the door to sign up for a service. You pay for that time when you sign up, more or less. By the same token, the same company often does give away lots of free consultations and estimates to people who never sign on for services. And, even if you do sign on, ultimately paying for said service, it doesn't mean you're not getting a good deal.
Regardless, there are "free meals," you just have to read the fine print to know which ones are legit.
Aren't you oversimplifying it a bit. HAHHAHA. Hey...you know what it means. You have a lot over others.
