Your young people who voted to remain in the EU accuse you of robbing them of their future my friend. How do you rebut that charge? We are being told on this side of the pond that while folks had 27 nations from which to find jobs now they won't. The UK is no longer part of that community of countries that afforded
special privileges to its members. I can only tell you what I read and what I gather from that. Have you robbed your young people of their futures? Thank you for your reply MrWitch! :)
I've read some of that Rosie and it was inevitable, but it's also meaningless.
My hopes for a reasoned, balanced response took a hit the other day when I saw some talking head or other, on tv to 'represent' the youth vote in some way, seriously put forward the view that younger people should have more of a vote than older people. This wasn't some ill-educated chav from the backstreets of Milton Keynes, but a supposedly highly educated person with a background in youth politics (I think). 'Entitlement central' sums that kind of nonsense up nicely.
Responses so far haven't been balanced or proportionate on either side, and unsurprisingly it's younger people's use of social media that is attracting attention. Unfortunately, between suggestions of Logan's Run in reality and direct encouragement of electoral fraud with the petition for a re-referendum, the perception among those no long young is that many younger people aren't covering themselves in glory here.
Just as some fools voted 'out' because they don't like people who aren't them, some fools voted 'in' for the convenience, for low roaming charges and cheap foreign holidays. Very, very few will have voted 'in' because they are planning a career in Europe. There are currently about 1.5 million UK citizens who live abroad in the EU, but an extremely large proportion of those are retirees in Spain, France and Portugal. As a rule, the UK population is less willing than most to move, or adapt to other cultures when abroad.
I would agree that the exit vote will inevitably make working and living in Europe more complicated, however old you may be. However, that will not happen for at least 2 years, depending on when negotiations begin. Administratively, the worst that will happen is that people will have to get a visa to travel and work, which is not commensurate with 'robbing people of their futures', or denying them absolutely the right to travel.
Of course you see things in the perspective of your views MrWitch. I'm sure the young folks who disagree with you see things in the perspective of theirs and believe your views are all the negative things you say their views are. I don't know because I'm an outsider and I'm old. Just as Hillary attracts old white folks and older-than-Hillary Bernie attracts the young. They see something in him they don't see in her. I don't fault them for that. The young are entitled to a different perspective just as the old are entitled to theirs. Perhaps with experience and time and age the young will come around to your way of thinking but I would not rob them of respect for their views even though you disagree. Again I acknowledge I am an outsider and only can go by observation and what makes sense to me. I would have voted to remain which I'm sure you understand, At least I THINK so. Of course being there and living through what was is not the same as reading about it after the fact. Thank you for your thoughtful answer MrWitch. Fingers crossed that at opening bell the markets don't go down the tubes entirely. I guess they could suspend activity if it got too bad. I think it's unfortunate that the young folks look down upon the thinking of their elders while the elders give short shrift to the thinking processes of the younger folks. There is validity to both and error in both isn't there? Isn't that true of every position?

I've heard the 'youth' turnout for the referendum was c. 30%. I haven't looked particularly deeply but it does seem to be a difficult figure to either confirm or deny via the usual channels.
Very similar demographics here in the US. The young seem to only vote in the Presidential election.
Over 50 vote often in all elections.
