Blame the mental health system.  It is difficult for parents to get mental health for their child.
Once that "child" reaches 18, intervention only happens when he hurts someone else, himself or commits a crime.  There is no law that makes being mentally ill illegal.
OK, now that he is "in the system" he will likely get time in jail, fines and IF he is one of the lucky few
some real mental help.  Not being sent to counseling for 6 weeks and let him back out to offend again. The jails are FULL of people who have no business being there.  Since they closed all the mental health hospitals and let every one go, where they went is; sleeping under a bridge somewhere and jail.  In jail they can act out by throwing their poop and pee in peoples faces, plugging up the sewer system and flooding their floor, attacking the guards or just spend their time in their cell banging their head against the wall. Lovely system.  Activists are needed to bring about change so desperately in this area.  Perhaps those who spend their time online hating someone should channel that energy in a positive direction.  Writing letters to their congressman regarding the mental health system and those who need help.

Sadly the Danish government copied that 'success' and did a similar 'mass release' of mental patients (somewhat less sweeping though). And like in the US the result was that we now have a large number of homeless people sleeping where ever they can find a place. We never had that as a problem before. But I suppose it is cheaper, and they are not the kind of articulate people who can complain so they get heard.

It may sound cheaper but in the long run it costs a lot more in money and resources. Not to mention the victims who pay as well, some with their life.  If someone is a danger to the public they should be in a hospital until such time they can re-enter and live among the general public.  Without treatment and being monitored failure is assured. Florida has the Baker Law which means a person can be picked up and held for a period of time if they have issues.  I think the law is great even with the potential for some of abuse of it. It is an intervention that could change the course of many events that can't be undone once they happen.

Yes that's it JakobA. I try to understand things that puzzle but for the life of me I can't understand wanton destruction for it's own sake. I have my limitations and that is one of them. Thank you for your reply and the link! :)
