Why me?

As I sit here doing laundry some old lady comes in with bed sheets and blankets.   Now while they are in the washer the whole laundromat smells like urine.

Not to be mean but it's making me feel ill and I have contempt for this woman.

Hmm... Maybe it will help to know that you will one day be the person heading to the laundromat with laundry that smells like urine.

  • That is very well likely true.  However no, no it doesn't help at all. :(

I'm sorry.   I didn't mean to offend you.  I just didn't have any other place I could go to wash my sheets & blankets.  :-(

  • I heard that people who remove the dead from buildings rub a little Vicks Vapor Rub in each nostril and that way they only smell the Vapor Rub.
That's all I can think of, good luck.

Consider the possibility that she is caring for someone who has a serious incontinence problem and has no option other than to take the bedding to the laundromat.  On the other hand, it could possibly be her that smells that way.  My sister's mother-in-law had that problem and refused to acknowledge that she did.  As a result, she often smelled of urine and since she lived a block away from me, often I had to take her home after dinner.  I had to spray my car with Febreeze after I dropped her off.

That reminds me of the time I was helping some old lady out to her car and she confessed that she peed on the motorized cart and of course I had to sit on it to get it to move since she parked it right behind her car. She had the decency to dry the seat off, but there was pee on the bottom and it stank and made me feel ill. I bought a new pair of pants on my break because the old ones felt tainted. I still feel bad for her, that must have been embarrassing. So, anyway, atleast you didn't have to sit on it..

Growing old is no for the faint of heart.  Thank you for not making her feel worse than she probably already felt.  I suspect that most of us, if we live long enough, will have incontinence problems.  Best we can do is be understanding of those who are afflicted now.

I have neded to wash my bedding a couple of times because if incontinence, It happens. When needed I do it early in the morning, when nobody else is using the laundry.

The real problems start when your sense of smell is so far gone that you cannot even smell it yourself. Then the urine soaked sheets can lie on the bed for weeks, while it develops a super stink so bad and stale that even you can smell it.

Good thing I was only drinking coffee and not eating when I read your response Jakob.

Please shoot me if I get to that point.

Righty, you may want to reconsider that trade offer.
I'm pretty sure you'd get the worst end of the deal. ;-)

Also, it occurs to me that you may just be depressed because you have to deal with a freaking laundromat.

I no longer have to do my laundry in a laundromat and I don't have to take a bus.

But I am still miserable if that makes you feel better.
