When was the last time the library charged you a fine? Did you pay it?

I had to pay $1.50 to the University of Hawaii Library for some overdue books. Had I not done so, they would not have let me graduate.

We recently had a Library Page (student worker) that we had to let go because we found out she'd cancelled out over $150 worth of library fines for her friends.  That's considered the same as theft. 

Being an employee of a library I have no excuse for turning things in late.  I'm there everyday. 

A good while back. I wrote them a check for 5 cents.

That was years and years ago.

Of course I did; I had to; until we cleared our debt we weren't allowed to borrow.

I like to return books and tell them I want my money back.  :|

I can't even remember when was the last time I took a book out of the library - probably when I was in middle school.  I read a lot, but buy my own paperback books.  I guess one of my eccentricities is not liking to read a book that someone else read first. 

I have never had to pay a fine.  My daughter lost a book and the library charged $33.  I made her pay it out of her own money.  She was in high school and had a PT job.

I'm the same way, except I like hard covers.  :)

Hardcovers are heavy to bring back and forth from work and to hold while lying in bed reading.  I also don't have bookshelves to hold them anymore.  When I'm done, I ship them to a friend, she reads them along with her friends and family and then we send them to an organization that includes them in their care packages to the troops.

When I graduated HS a couple of months ago. I had overdue books, so when I got my diploma envelope, there was a bill and a note that said as soon as I turned in my books, I'd get my diploma. Hah whoops

It was more.   What happened was I took out some CD's when my mom became really sick, I started running back and forth taking her all over  and I forgot to return them.  My priorities were NOT about returning those CD's.  They charge an exorbitant amount.  Like $1 a day that each is over due.  Highway robbery.

I'll give them a few bucks a week until it is paid.  If they don't like it, too bad.  I returned everything and they need to stop bugging me.    I was briefly chatting with CSV and he mentioned he organizes segments  the Library of Congress or something like that.  It inspired this question. 

I don't work for the Library of Congress.  The Library of Congress created the system of call numbers used in university libraries nowadays, because the Dewey Decimal system was too limited.
