I seek to change the minds of those who are an obstacle in my path. If they are stopping me from keeping my health insurance? I want to change their minds.
If they are stopping freedoms that are meant for all of us? I want to change their minds.
If they are in my care such as a child, and they are doing something I perceive I can aid them with to make their lives better, I want to change their minds.
If they are heroes that are being persecuted and the people who are persecuting them need to hear me out? I want to change those minds as well
If they are sick and need me to help them get better because they are helping to make themselves sick. I want to change their minds.
I do yes, and I applaud that effort. But there are times when attempting to change minds only serves to make people more entrenched in their positions. Make them less open minded and more angry. When the yelling is so loud and so often that it just becomes noise.
I wish I had a definitive answer for you. People do it for various reasons. I know people who do it because they have a need to be right all the time. Some do it out of a displaced loyalty. I know people who feel the need to pass on information and change minds as a way to keep another person safe.
Some do it so they don't feel so alone in their thoughts and opinions.
I'm sure there are more reasons but I can't think of them at the moment.
I don't try to change anyone's opinion. Unless, they're wrong of course. ;-)
I've was away visiting friends and extended family. Now I'm home and have some guys here cutting down dead trees around my house. So, at the moment, I'm a captive (and extremely nervous) audience. I can't promise I'll liven things up here because I'm boring, but I'll try to post a couple of questions over the next day or so regarding my misadventures on my vacay.
