The police USUALLY protect a prez from military takeover. But if the police and the military join forces because they believe the prez is incompetent and doing harm to the country what recourse would he have?  Whom would he depend upon to watch his back? Certainly not other countries  since he talks about dumping Nato allies and Nationalism/Isolationism. He would be on his own all alone. Has he ever been on his own all alone with only his money as his buffer zone?

  • The term "Law and Order" isn't necessarily negative. Sometimes when thugs, criminals, terrorists or anarchists take over the streets, the application of law (legislation and regulation) and order(bringing a state of calm, security and peace) is a process that's necessary. I think that one of the checks placed in the system has worked. The idea of civilian control of the military. In a lot of the infamous "banana republics" coups are a regular thing because the head of the government is not in charge of the military structure. That usually falls to a ranking general or other military figure. I speak generally in this while you speak of a particular individual. Each scenario would have different aspects to consider. I'm not saying that a coup is impossible here, I'm more inclined to think of it as a possibility than maybe thirty years ago. But we've never had one to date. That speaks well of a system that really works when it's allowed to do so. Let's not rule out the possibility of a man or woman that's already on the inside  of the structure with a hands on working knowledge and understanding of security agencies and law enforcement, as well as the best way to use such to gain advantage.

Rosie, are the remains of the Berlin Wall up for sale?  We can build that wall, along with the Mexican Wall.  (we have plenty of money;  Donald will charge us for it too)   This way we can do the same thing.  We can keep the police  and army on one side of the USA and we can remain on the "free" side.    Let the Texans and the Ohioans and the Montana folks and all them hillbillies living in their Hollers stay on one side.  I will remain in the land of the crippled free.
