Camp has been variously defined as: "An aesthetic style and sensibility that regards something as appealing because of its bad taste and ironic value"(Wikipedia),  "banality, mediocrity, artifice, [and] ostentation ... so extreme as to amuse or have a perversely sophisticated appeal" (Webster's)

I'm not sure what the best examples are . . . I just looked at a list of what are purported to be the top 25 camp movies. Of these I've only seen All About Eve (which I didn't think was camp at all) and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - which was, at least in the musical sequences, but I remember it more fondly because of Jane Russell being in it.

But I think the ultimate camp experience would have to be either the Rocky Horror Picture Show or The Room, with an honourable (or should that be dishonourable?) mention to Manos - the Hands of Fate.

Do you have any faves you'd like to share? This post was edited by Reverend Muhammadovsky at September 13, 2017 1:33 AM MDT

I'm not a fan of camp Rev.  Just as I'm not a fan of vampire movies or slapstick or the "dumb & dumber" movies. I like to be entertained and none of those genres do it for me.  Maybe" All About Eve" is considered camp because of Bette Davis. She did have her campy moments in a few movies.  I guess they are all "cult" movies. There is something about them that connects or clicks at some level among some people. Thank you for your thoughtful and informative reply and Happy Wednesday! :)
