If you dream about someone who has died, is it because the person is trying to make contact?

  • Wow, it's strange that I saw this question this morning because I had a weird dream about my brother last night.
I never dream about him, but I guess his wife is not doing well and I just saw his daughter yesterday and so I prayed for them.

Then last night I had a dream about my brother telling me to do something and I didn't understand him.

I don't know what to make of that, but it was probably because I had a lot on my mind regarding his family before I went to sleep.

I think dreams happen on a bunch of different levels.  When you are deeply sleeping and you have a vision, that is different than if you are just half sleeping and awake enough to remember the stream-of-consciousness thoughts that arise during the dream state.

It is usually easy to tell the difference because something happens in the dream to make you feel like really thinking about the message (or appearance) and may appear more than once.

Some people are so longing for a connection that this will also manifest in the dream state and you may not be connecting to anything past your own imagination.

I don't have dreams where I am being contacted.  That is not one of my talents, I guess.  Many do.  The ones that can be definitely taken seriously are the ones that have messages that are yet to come true or have messages that you don't know that the person would know.  Those are the easy ones.

I have told this story so many times but I will give you one that I know happened and that it could only have been a visitation.

I had a picture of Sai Baba that I used to kiss on the lips after praying to feel the closeness of the being I was praying to and knowing that He trusted the reason for the kiss.  It seems a bit improper to kiss Satya Sai Baba on the lips because it seems like some kind of attraction for the wrong reason.  So I would mention this to him while I prayed.  But I could not help myself.

So, my mom does not like Sai Baba and wanted nothing to do with hearing anything about him.  Which I totally respected.  I never brought him up.

Until one day she says to me, I had the strangest dream last night.  I said let's hear.

She says.  You know that weird guy that you pray to?  I was LIKE WHAT?????

She says she saw him in her dream and he came closer and closer and did not say a word, but just

KISSED ME ON THE LIPS and disappeared.

Now you can make what you want out of that.   But to ME?  That was the best answer He could have given me because there was no way anyone can say I made it up.  My mom knew nothing about this and never gave Baba a thought much less about being kissed by him ever.

This is not a major story or anything.  But that is how miracles often appear.  For eyes that can see.

    That is so cool.
I can travel in the Astro=Plane some nights.  I can manipulate my dream any way i want to during those times. But your experience with Satya Sai Baba is much much cooler.

Im a Baba. Baba means grandmother in Russian. Thats what my grandson calls me. ;)

  • I don't believe that particularly, no. But I can see why it may be comforting to believe that.

For me, when I've dreamt about people who have died, I know it's because their memory is still in my mind, and I consider that a good thing. I don't want to forget the people I've loved who have passed.

I don't know, but I do think we sometimes dream of those important to us who have passed because we un/subconsciously feel we need reminding of something they taught/told us.  That might be a warning to do or not do something, a reminder of a past lesson, or just a "hang in there, you're not alone" type of message.  Working through issues in our sleep could unlodge such things buried deep in our memories.

As often as I dream about a few people, though, I get the impression it really is them reaching out from beyond to smack me upside the head.

Thats weird that you asked this question because my son and i were talking yesterday about how we both had a dream about his father (my late husband) the night before, and that we wondered if either one of us also heard any strange noises that night. I did. I heard foot steps in the hall way. Turns out , so did my son.  The first year anniversary of his death is this Halloween. I wonder if he came back in a dream to remind us or something. ;)

More likely because I remember her.

All the people who have died communicate with me but those are the dreams that I don't remember.

I know a lot of people may think that, but I think it's probably because the person is on your mind.
