Discussion»Questions»Human Behavior» To those of you who were NOT born to a wealthy family. Whom do you think you would have been if you were? To the wealthy, the reverse?
I would have wound up as some out of control drunken disaster. Maybe God would have found pity on me and given me a new path eventually after my ego finally was tromped into the ground and I learned to listen for a change.
Oh wait. That happened anyway.
(This is not me, this is my Twin Tara Reid, destroyer of opportunities and corrupter of the self) I hope she lives long enough to change.
I don't know if you would call my upbringing "wealthy", but sure, I grew up in a big house and money wasn't really ever an issue. One significant difference may have been college. I knew that my parents would be able to pay for my college (this was aided by the fact that I'm an only child), that I wouldn't need student loans or scholarships. If my parents had not been well-off, paying for college would've been more of an obstacle, since I work in academia now, the university experience has essentially shaped who I am today. I have a feeling I would've been much the same person even if my time at a university had been a bit more difficult, though.

My son is a College Professor Nevan B. When you say you work in academia is it on a college campus somewhere teaching perchance? Thank you for your very thoughtful and helpful reply. I wonder whom I would have been had I been born to wealth. We were average I guess. There were times my family struggled. I fantasized when I was young about being rich. You know how kids are. I don't know if I'd be a nicer person or a shrew. Certainly it affects one in some ways. It has to! :)
