Isn't a component of murder hate? How many folks died in wars vs as the result of terrorisim/racism ? Does it matter the form hate takes?

You're not taking into consideration those murders that are known as "crimes of passion". Sudden, overpowering anger where reason and judgement are overpowered momentarily by intense anger. A lack of control all too often has nothing to do with hate or calculated, planned murder based on cultural or philosophical differences and prejudice.
