When you do something nice for someone and the person questions it or finds fault with it do you regret doing it? Why?

Are you fault finder or the hope-to-please one? Have you been both? How does it feel?

It depends on how they react.

I cannot regret it if it still has a positive outcome.

My intentions are mostly all that mattered in the first place.

CS Lewis once commented that if he were aware that someone was coming over to his home with the express purpose of doing him "good," he would immediate run out the back door.

I even have to occasionally tell my wife---whom I love dearly---to "please, don't help me."

But any help I give is like any gift I give.----once I give it, it's yours.  Throw it away if it you don't want it.

That sounds quite absurd to me tom. It really does. If my sister is coming over to my home to help me with something she does better than I do why in the he** would  I immediately run out the back door? If he really meant that then he is surely  a pompous A**. If he thinks he is being oh-so-clever he isn't. It sounds like something Ebeneezer Scrooge would say. BAH HUMBUG! Just my reaction to what you said. Thank you for your reply. As for myself I would think twice about helping again. I wouldn't. :)

The point is that unsolicited help frequently turns out to be less than helpful.  If I go duck hunting, I don't want you "helping" me because you have no idea of the pattern I have in mind for the decoys, and since that pattern comes from experience and specific knowledge of the current environment, I don't have the time or inclination explain what I'm doing so that you can assist.

CS Lewis is a well know author who died in 1963.

Point taken m'dear. I didn't get it. I do now. You are so beyond right it isn't funny. I've been on the receiving end of unsolicited help. :( Thank you for the articulate clarification. Sometimes stuff just goes right over my head...WHOOOSH! It happens! Happy Sunday tom! :)

Random acts of kindness.  I don't need to be patted on the back or reprimanded.
I do it because I would like to help that person.  I NEVER do anything to anyone that would intentionally hurt them.  If they feel it hurt them, I will apologize for the feeling I might have given them. I certainly wouldn't have done it had I thought so.
If they reprimand me, I feel my feeling will be hurt, yes.
Depending on the seriousness of the situation, I'm not sure if I can answer your question, all the way.  :s!!
I do things because I am always trying to help.
I don't have a vindictive or vengeful bone in my body.  I try not to surround myself with people that do.  Does that help or did I run off base?  Have a great day Rosie and turn on your a/c!  It's going to be a hot one again today at my house!  Hugs and happy thoughts coming your way!  Love, Merlin

Hi sweetie! Our weather has been very kind to us lately. I checked the weather report this morning and starting today here are the highs projected for the next 8 days for Hemet, California.  85, 88, 85, 84, 75, 76, 81, 86! Not a triple digit among them! Autumn is almost here which is our favorite time of the year. Wanting to be helpful is a wonderful trait. Sometimes people want to do it themselves though. Some folks don't like to impose or be a burden. I'm one of them. I try to do whatever I can for myself so I don't bother other people. I am not too proud to ask for help when I  need it but I try to minimize the times I need it. Thank you for your thoughtful reply and Happy Sunday Merlin! :) ((hugs))

Good Morning~ I have 20 minutes before I "Reeeaaallllly" have to get ready for work.  I thought I'd stop by AnswerMug to say, "Hi!:)"  The birds are chirping this morning and I waxed my car last night until 12:30 a.m.  A little sore from that expenditure of energy... but my car looks great!
Just Gabbin' with ya!  Have a great Monday as well.  Talk to ya soon, Love, Merlin :) :) This post was edited by Merlin at September 19, 2017 3:48 AM MDT

You WAXED your car that late at night? Wow sweetie! That is seriously impressive!  I love to hear birds chirping Merlin. We have a tree in front of our house where they congregate and serenade us in the spring! Thanks for dropping by to say hi! Hope your yesterday at work was splendidly superduper and hope the rest of the week will be as well! Happy Tuesday Merlin! Love, Rosie :) ((hugs))
