I might just be paranoid, but it seems like the smaller the gif, the easier it is to load. Also, if it takes a long time to load on the gif web, it usually doesnt load for me. But they could just be singling me out.

I also know that sometimes they won't post if there is something else already in the frame, like typing.  Not always.

And sometimes they may be OWNED by someone and it is infringement of some type.

I think it has to do with who is hosting it.

Lately a lot of websites have changed their protocol to a secure mode called *https:" it means that the website will show a certificate to 'prowe' it is not phishing but is actually owned and managed by the people owning the domain name.

But that also makes a demand on the client that access the website, he must be open to the possibility tha such a certificate must be sent, and also be able to see if it is a valid certificate. Most browsers do this automatically so there is no conflict. Some browsers (like my Firefox) go a step further and refuse to show pages from https:-sites that do not have a valid certificate, There are surprizingly many of them, I have had pages from nationwide US newspapers rejected in this way.

When posting an image the page tell the browser of later visiors that the picture is at that location, it may be on a HTTP: site or on a HTTPS: site. the important thing is that it is an URL
    Then 3 things can happen:
!) It the imaagefile is there and accessible it gets sent .
    2) If the image file is there and it is a https-site with a walid certificate your browser just say: "so send it too me already". If it does then the picture gets shown normally.
    3) but if the certificate is not ok your browser will often refuse to load the image. "No proper picture could be found".
