I can really relate to your example though, everyone with their news while you're sitting there like a piece of furniture.

Not fun at all. Keeps me away from family a lot. Gets tough keeping a smile plastered on my face.

    Almost all the other people.

I relapsed once because I had to go to a family gathering.  They make me that sick.

When I did have a large extended family, it was all the f*ckiing chattering and screaming like monkeys about nothing of any importance.  I don't have a large family but my husband did.  I cringed every time we had to go to one of their functions.  Eventually, I begged off them altogether.  They were loud and annoying people who didn't give a shite about anyone but themselves.  Each one would scream over the other to be heard.  Makes me shudder thinking about it.  Think Fran Drescher,  but not attractive or funny.

I loved the Nanny.  I have the same family.   I don't see any of them at all.  Don't miss them at all.

LOL!  No, that was my husband's family I was talking about.  I'm anything but a Fran Drescher type.  I know I talk a lot here, but I'm not loud when I speak and, believe it or not, I generally just sit and quietly watch everyone when I'm in that kind of social situation.

  • That is surprising :) lol believe it or not I ramble on more in RL situations than I do here ... yes I'm even more exhausting in person ;)

If it's one of those everybody bring food things, the food is the worst part because I don't touch it unless my sister or I made it.  When I'm in charge I do all of the prep and cooking or use a catering service.  Thrifty does not like the pot luck thing! Or when they have a celebration cake and the person cutting it keep licking frosting off their fingers and then touching the cake? Makes me shudder.
