Slightly off subject here but it has to do with who owns what. About two weeks ago I had arranged with my internet provider to change onto a fiber optic broad band system, this was done over the phone and a technician was booked for Friday (yes the 13th) morning to do the work needed for the change over, all well so far. During my initial telephone I had ensured that I would continue on my present system till the new connection was completed, at which point I was to call the provider and my old system would be disconnected, Now comes the fun, the techniciandisconnected my old supply, then after about an hour told me that some cables needed to be replaced before I could be connected to the new system and promptly left. This left me with no internet service, on contacting the provider and explaining the situation and the fact that I had been ensured that the old service would not be disconnected till the new one was up and running, I was informed that I was basically telling lies as none of their sales people would make such a promise. I then told them that as their calls were recorder for 'training purposes' it should be easy enough to listen to the conversation and get to the truth of the matter, I was told that they would do that and get back to me. When they eventually did get back to me it was to say that they had listened to the call and no such promise had been made, I asked them to mail me a copy of the conversation because I know what was said and I had stressed this point several times and been reassured several times that my old system would not be disconnected till I asked them to do so. Now we get to the who owns what part, according to my provider the recordings are their private property and not available to the public, even if that member of the public happens to be the other party in the recorded call. Sounds like one big stitch up to me.
Needless to say I am no longer with that provider, I still have 18 months to go on a 2 year contract and I really hope they sue me for non payment, then a court can listen to the recording that they would not let me have.
That is a NIGHTMARE! You don't OWN your own conversation? What dam* fool decided that? I cahn't stend it! You also don't own your name. Did you know that mom? In our neighborhood there was a coffee roaster shop that served pastries along with their coffee called "SEE's". They had a few tables inside and out and folks gathered there regularly. The owner's surname was SEE. Legally on her birth certificate. All went well for a few years and then she received a CEASE AND DESIST letter from See's Candy telling her she couldn't use that name! Isn't than insanely inane? She had to change the name of her business. That is the most absurd thing I ever heard until what you just told me. Now I know if you work for a company and design something or invent something they own it because you did it on their dime. Employment agreements signed in advance always will stipulate that. But to say you don't own what you say or your name? Stupid is rampant. Thank you for your sad and frustratingly aggravating reply. I'd sure blow my cork! Glad you didn't blow yours! :)
