I make every effort to be cordial at all times. If I initiate a conversation, I am responsive, to the best of my ability, to those who participate in the discussion, whether or not I like them or their contributions.  Ignoring people, shutting them down, or belittling them are actions that show a lack of manners and a disregard for others. (Unless, of course that person has some sort of mental impairment that prevents them from behaving appropriately).
