In order to remain loyal to a cause/a person sometimes you are required to compromise your values/change them drastically. Is it worth it?

Would you willingly give up whom you were, what you believed, what was most meaningful to you because there was no choice? Don't you always have a choice?  Shouldn't you always remain true to you and screw whomever it is who wants to manipulate you into becoming like him/her? Why?
