  • They would rather buy a new iPhone, a new HD TV, a new Mac Airbook, and subscribe to Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now, and spend the rest at Starbucks.

The industry seems to think it has something to do with them wanting something unique that not everybody has. It could also be that the rest of the world has caught onto the fact that diamonds really aren't all that rare and that the diamond trade is horrific... People are treated poorly. It funds guerrilla warfare. It destroys the earth. And also, they don't retain their value, so it's a useless investment.

Millennials don't actually buy a whole lot, though. They're prone to live at home for an extended period of time and to share big-ticket items like houses and cars. They're also loaded down with debt. Personally, I think it's more because they don't buy a whole lot of luxury items that don't involve tech.

Source: I have researched millennial buying patterns and have written for marketing agencies and the diamond industry. I'm also a millennial, but just barely. I think diamonds are lame.

Are you a millennial? Do you like diamonds?

  • yus I am a millennial lol. and I am indifferent of diamonds. I am just asking crazy questions about both millennials and babyboomers (and I knew that this would get Mr. B's attention) because I read this article: 19 reasons why millennials are the worst (and I'm procrastinating from doing my homework)
