Part of such an education is meeting people from influential families who seek an education at such colleges. Who may be of help to you then or in the future.  Is not just what you know but who you know.

Both my brothers went to Ivy League schools (Yale and Princeton)  and both started successful business ventures in their 20s. They were ambitious and hard-working and personable but they did take advantage of the networks they were able to access through school acquaintances and alumni to help them get set up, for investments, for employees, and for customers.

Let's do a comparison. An Ivy leaguer and I both want to be teachers. He/she and I get our education degrees. I got a ligitamate degree from a State funded public college. (which I did). Now...we both apply for a job in the same city with the same degree and are successful. Hey...we both earn the same salary. We can take our degrees to McDonald's, show it to them and get a cup of coffee for a dollar.
