Discussion»Questions»Human Behavior» If you have songs to sing/stories to tell why would you need an audience? Wouldn't you do it for you? Are you that dependent on others? Why?
It's also brave. When you have an audience you may get boos if the audience doesn't like you or your performance. Or heckling. Some have even been hit with rotten tomatoes or eggs. Granted that is the extreme but you never know who/what is out there or if they're armed with than words. You go out o a limb with an audience because you don't what the motives/intentions are, if they want you to succeed or hope you fail. Thank you for your reply palmagolden and Happy Wednesday! :)
You take a big risk with an audience. They can turn on you and receive what you give with boos ot catcalls or heckling. When you share it's best to know with WHOM you are sharing things because there are those who WANT you to fail and no matter ho w beautiful the song or how wonderful the story they don't care. Thank you for your reply cp and Happy Wednesday to thee. Another question comes from this conversation.
In our part of the country, story telling and oral history was a fine art at one time. It was also a form of entertainment. Unfortunately we've gotten away from that. At any rate, it required an audience for the stories and history to be passed along and enjoyed by other people. There was nothing better than sitting on a porch with a group of people who were spinning tales of times that I was too young to know about, yet defined who we were. All of this while the evening air was filled with the aroma of honeysuckle and the locusts sang in the sycamores and oaks. I need to quit before I launch into a story.
