Other than sustaining me, my love of sweets (sugar) has had some obvious negative effects. It's now known that migraine is not from enlarged veins in the head, but from inflammation of the veins. Sugar causes inflammation all over the body. I read that it is likely the single most guilty party when it comes to inflammation. Research is suggesting that Fibromyalgia may actually be from inflamed veins rather than from overactive nerves. I'm eating a Lifesaver Wintergreen mint as I type. I'm addicted.
